"Strawberry Thief" is a textile produced in 1883 that incorporated colors other than indigo, such as red and yellow, into indigo discharge printing. This required advanced techniques and a long time, as each color had to be dyed, printed, and removed separately.
It was worth the effort, and it has become one of the most popular patterns, a masterpiece that continues to be celebrated for its enduring popularity.
The key strawberry and bird sections of the Strawberry Thief pattern feature carefully chosen enamel colors. The background is a deep blue enamel, accented with a single garnet cabochon strawberry, secured with a single stone.
The strawberry's color is achieved by layering two layers of opaque and transparent enamel, creating a lovely red color and a sense of transparency. The bird part is given a light beige shimmering enamel, designed to sparkle with every reflection of light.
We achieved the beautiful blue color for the strawberries through repeated trials.
William Morris Strawberry Thief. The most recommended jewelry from the official William Morris collection.
